The Charity Walk for Peace is run by the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, and in 2017 it raised £685,000. Last year local Ahmadis introduced us to this annual fundraising event and WHC benefited from some of the proceeds. The walk moves around the UK, but this year will take place within range for us – on the morning of Sunday 29th April in the beautiful surroundings of Windsor Great Park.

This is a chance for WHC supporters to raise sponsorship for WHC, and crucially the organisers will match-fund the proceeds for WHC up to £2,000. The walk is about five miles long and will start from the Savill Court Hotel, where there is free parking. Registration opens at 9am; the walk starts at 10.30; lunch is provided after the Walk; and it should all be over sometime after 1pm.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim community is a recent branch of Islam, distinct from the main Sunni and Shia branches. Their motto is Love For All Hatred For None. You can read more here:

How to take part

Registration closes on Saturday 21st April.

The Walk website is here:

Scroll down the page to find two documents of interest:

  1. Click on “About the walk” to find the arrangements and General FAQ
  2. Click on “Register for the walk” to register. (The “terms” mentioned in this form are in “About the walk” or “General FAQ”.) Be sure to answer Yes to the question “Are you representing a specific charity?” and enter Wycombe Homeless Connection.
  3. Gathering sponsorship:
  4. The Walk organisers have set up a page on JustGiving. Gathering sponsorship online saves a lot of effort all round, which justifies the small charge taken by JustGiving. Details are below.
  5. If you want to use a paper sponsorship form in addition or instead, you can request one (see next step).
  6. Email [email protected] to indicate you are taking part and to offer or request a lift or to request a paper sponsorship form.

Click Create the page

Click Personalise to modify the story on your page. You must ensure your story mentions Wycombe Homeless Connection otherwise the funds you raise will not find their way to WHC.

Here you can also choose a colour scheme, add photos and change your automatic Thank you message.

Share assists you to share your participation on Facebook or by email. Letting your network know is the way to raise sponsorship. Be sure to mention the match funding!

Edit lets you change your target, extend the life of your page beyond 30/6/18, or set up text giving to allow people to contribute to your fundraising by text.

Fundraising tip: once you have set up your page, keep an eye on it and if the total donations approach your target, it’s a good idea to raise your target. Research indicates that individual donations halve in size once a target is reached.
