Following the breakdown of his marriage, Darren* found himself homeless for the first time in his life. He slept rough for a few days near the Premier Inn – an experience which he found cold, uncomfortable and scary. Darren was stuck, but another homeless individual pointed him towards WHC, and he was given a place in the night shelter.

Looking forward, WHC staff suggested he apply to the YMCA – an idea that had not occurred to him, as he thought he would be too old. Once settled in the YMCA’s hostel, Darren started looking for a job to use his engineering and computer skills, with the aim of finding a place of his own. Said Darren: “When I was homeless, I really did not know where to turn for help, but things moved quickly once I approached WHC. Many thanks to Kevin and Leticia!”
