Phil grew up in Wycombe and worked in a local warehouse. Evicted from the hostel where he was living, he found a place to sleep in a passage under the M40 up near Asda. “But you never really sleep”, said Phil, “You wake up every 15 minutes because you’re always alert in case someone might come along.”

Phil sought help from WHC, and entered the night shelter. Said Phil, “Sundays were the worst during the day because nothing was open, so I just wandered around. But at least there was the roast dinner to look forward to – the food highlight of the week!” With support from WHC staff, Phil eventually secured a place in the Old Tea Warehouse hostel. He planned to find a job and look for longer term accommodation.
