After first coming to the Wycombe Winter Night Shelter one year, one 53-year-old female guest became a regular visitor at WHC’s “Inspire” motivational workshops, where she took part in group sessions on goal-setting. Particularly memorable for her was a video they watched from the TV show Total Wipeout, with its determined contestants battling against a hostile course.

At the same time, this lady was struggling at her maths studies. Ready to pick up her things and walk out, she remembered a woman she’d seen bruised, battered and covered in mud on the Wipeout course, exhausted but unwilling to give up. She sat back down and decided to see her lesson through. She battled her way to a Maths GCSE, was rehoused and made it back into work.
