As a self-employed tradesman, Joe relies on his tools and van to get him from job-to-job.

So when his van got stolen, Joe quickly found himself without work and consequently without money. After Joe had been unemployed and unable to pay rent for a few weeks, his landlord asked him to leave the tenancy. People in Joe’s position do not qualify for temporary accommodation from the council, so he was forced to sleep rough in underpasses and tents.

We helped by providing emergency provisions – like clothes, food and a sleeping bag – and by inviting Joe to our Plug-In service on Thursday evenings for a shower and nourishing meal. We also invited Joe to our Feel Good Day, where he was referred to a local supported housing provider on the spot. We are pleased to say Joe’s just moved in and is getting back up on his own two feet.
